Why would anyone buy spaghetti sauce in a jar when you can make this recipe for spaghetti sauce in no time!
If you like your sauce chunky, you can always use dice tomatoes instead of the crushed tomatoes. You can also add mushrooms or green peppers if you like those in your sauce.
Here's what you'll need:
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can of tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can of tomato paste
1/2 cup of water
1 tablespoon of sugar
11/2 teaspoon of dried basil
1/2 teaspoon of fennel seeds
1 teaspoon of Italian Seasoning
1 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper
2 tablespoons of dried parsley
1 pound of spaghetti, cooked according to package directions
Here's what you need to do:
In a large Dutch Oven, brown the ground beef until well browned. Add the onion and garlic and cook until onions turn clear.
Add the crushed tomatoes, sauce, paste, water, and sugar.
Mix well.
Add Basil, Fennel Seeds, Italian Seasoning, Salt, Pepper and Parsley.
Stir well. Cover and cook for at least 45 minutes but if you have the time, cook it for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, it will be even better.
Serve this tomato sauce recipe on top of cooked spaghetti or any other pasta.
