Here’s an extremely easy and really good cranberry sauce recipe that you can make at home. I like mine with a little bit of an orange taste but if you don't like your with orange juice, just replace the OJ with about 1/4 cup of water and leave out the zest.
If you would rather have the jellied cranberry sauce...you know, the kind of cranberry sauce that most of us had as kids that came in the can, jiggled and your Mama would put it on a plate and slice it, just work the sauce through a strainer or a food mill while it's still hot.
Here's what you are going to need:
1 lb fresh cranberries
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 small orange, zested and juiced
Here's what you need to do:
Combine cranberries, water, sugar, orange juice and zest in a medium saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat, simmer uncovered 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely before serving. The sauce will thicken as it cool. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
See how easy it is to make your own cranberry sauce? I like to buy big bags of those fresh whole berry cranberries from the produce section and keep them in the freezer. You don't have to do anything to them, just pop them in the freezer and when you want to treat your guests or family to something special, get out the amount of cranberries you need and make them this wonderful homemade cranberry sauce recipe and make them feel as special as they are. You don't even need to thaw them out, just pop them in the pot frozen and cook the same way you would the fresh!
